At the beginning of autumn, usually in October, Culla returns to the Middle Ages with its historical recreation 'Culla 1233', to remember the glorious past of this emblematic town of Alt Maestrat, immersing itself fully in the thirteenth century, and relive its reconquest by the Aragonese nobleman Blasco de Alagón and the forces of King Jaime I, with the subsequent acquisition of the castle of Culla and its possessions by the knights of the Order of the Temple, who left their enigmatic mark in all corners of the territory.
The event is attended by recreationist groups from different parts of Spain, as well as others from France and Portugal. All of them spend the night in a military camp located in the ruins of the old castle, which, with absolute rigor, reproduces what life was like in one of these places to the delight of neighbors and visitors.
The program of the event is based on various stagings, such as battles between the Christian troops and the Saracen garrison of Culla, or the taking of possession of the Villa by the Order of the Temple, and which will be complemented with different activities linked to medieval traditions in cultural aspects, gastronomic, dress, parades and, of course, a charming medieval market.
It is an essential event that allows us to feel and live history in a privileged position, and in an incomparable environment, such as the municipality of Culla, so magical and medieval, one of the most beautiful villages in Spain.
