"A picturesque corner where tranquillity merges with the majesty of its mountains and the charm of its medieval architecture"Located in the northern interior of the province of Castellón, in the Valencian Community, this beautiful village located in the Alt Maestrat region, is known for its rural charm, its rich history and its mineral-medicinal waters. The old town of Benassal is a labyrinth of cobbled streets and stone houses, which retain their medieval structure. In the highest part of the old town sits the complex called La Mola from the thirteenth century, with a portal and part of the old castle. Today, this building houses the Tourist Office, the Archaeological Museum of Alt Maestrat and the Carles Salvador Foundation.
Its heritage includes the defensive towers and remains of walls that closed the perimeter of the so-called "Benassal Fortress". And in its Museums you will relive the history of the town and the region, such as the one explained in the exhibition dedicated to the memory of the bombings of the Condor Legion to the villages of the Maestrat in 1938, inside the Torre de la Presó, attached to the old prison, with its medieval dungeon. From the roof we get spectacular views that show the importance of this tower as a watchtower in the past centuries.

Of particular note is the El Rivet Municipal Natural Park, a unique forest of oaks and centuries-old holm oaks, where you can walk, eat and enjoy contact with nature in an unbeatable environment, with spectacular seasonal variations of its landscape. Declared a protected micro-reserve since 2005 due to its great natural wealth, it has a wide variety of fauna and flora, with an educational itinerary and an interpretation centre.

The gastronomy of Benassal is exquisite, based on excellent local products, hazelnuts, truffles, cheeses, sausages and meats, and typical dishes such as rabbit tombet with snails, traditional sweets or curd. Together with their award-winning mineral-medicinal water, they are a treat for the palate.
Throughout the year Benassal celebrates numerous events with activities of all kinds, cultural, gastronomic, sports, artistic and theatrical that reflect its culture and traditions. Of particular note is the Fira d'oficis, in July, in which almost all the residents participate, when the village returns to 1900 and shows the aspects and trades of life at that time, with activities for the whole family.
